How does Functional Kinesiology work?
To explain how Functional Kinesiology works, we need to understand that we humans are complex creatures. It is obvious we have our physical bodies; we know that right down to our microscopic individual cells and their contents, in fact we can drill down as far as our electrons in each atom. But what we also are, are emotional, spiritual and energetic beings. Ancient traditions such as Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Ayvedia,, which are still being practiced and have been for 1000's of years, know this and subsequently, work with this knowledge bringing about healing in the physical body.
Kinesiology essentially means "the study of the movement of muscles" and it is by using your muscles in your body, along with known points of reference, I, the practitioner, am able to communicate with your body via "bio-feedback". This allows me to tap straight into the subconscious part of you to identify what isn't working as it is designed to, why this is so and how it may be addressed so that it does work correctly.

So how am I made to feel better?
Your subconscious is in charge all the time. Whether it's your heart beating, your lungs breathing, your hormones creating a chemical reaction or muscles tensing. It is also in charge when we react to a situation or person as well as old patterns and ingrained behaviours. Our subconscious runs us, all of the time.
So, in a session, once I have established what the "true" issue is and why it is so, using your muscles, there are a number of eastern healing techniques that I implement to assist with the healing including acupressure (acupuncture without the needles), sound with tuning forks, energy healing, flower essences, essential oils and affirmations.
Your subconscious communicates its needs through your muscles and my training and skill is to ask the right questions of it, interpret the information that comes up and provide the most effective healing at that time.

How is bio-feedback even possible?
Bio-feedback is something we are beginning to understand the more we learn about Quantum Physics. There is no denying now (well maybe for some!) that all things are energy - you, me, the chair I am sitting on as I write this, the computer i type upon, the cat sitting next to my computer. The unique skill that I have is that i am able to tap into the energy of the body, the energy of the subconscious to learn and understand what is creating the stress in the body and what is required to alleviate that stress.

So why choose Kinesiology over other therapies?
well, that is entirely up to you. i am not a big believer in "silver bullet" fixes and that each individual needs to find the winning combination for them. But the reason why I ended up choosing it as a my profession over all the other therapies and modalities that I had tried over the years - modern and traditional - is that it brings everything together - the knowledge and understanding of how our bodies are made up and function, the psychology and behaviour of humans as well as the long standing understanding and acknowledgement of traditional healing modalities including meridians (TCM), chakras and Nadis (Ayveda), auras and Tibetan figure 8s. The other undeniable reason as to why I believe Kinesiology is an amazing therapy is it tunes into the individual's unique energy rather than relying on my knowledge and expertise to diagnose and address based on what may be the issue.

Do I have to be unwell or stressed to benefit from Kinesiology?
No - although if you have any pain or discomfort in your body, or if you struggle to remember, sleep, stay calm, make decisions, learn, focus etc. then you are infact suffering from stress. What happens is our incredible body will shift emotion and mental stress in the body to part of our physcial body so it can be "carried" there. Often there is a "weak point" where that stress will show itself again and again.

What can Kinesiology actually help with?
Kinesiology can help with many aliments and issues including physical, nutritional, hormonal, mental and emotional. Below are some the issues that may be helped with Kinesiology:
Structural and Physical Pain and Discomfort Kinesiology is helpful when addressing pain and discomfort as a result of muscular or structural issues. Many people suffer from back, neck and/or joint pain and it can be the result of an accident, injuries or general wear and tear as people age. I have assisted a number of people with lower back and hip pain which they have lived with for years and who are now experiencing very little discomfort, if at all. I have also experienced significant improvement on my own physical pain when having kinesiology done on myself, including improvement in lower back pain, neck and shoulder tension, plantar facia and teeth grinding.
Issues Kinesiology may help with include frozen shoulder, sciatica, joint pain, whiplash, scoliosis, headaches resulting from structural pain, balance and coordination.
Nutritional Issues As we become more aware of how important nutrition is to our everyday well-being and overall health it is becoming more imperative that we get the most from the food and drink we consume. Unfortunately, however, more and more people are suffering from issues with their digestive system, often suffering in silence and with little hope for relief.
Issues Kinesiology may help with include bloating, constipation, IBS, heartburn/reflux, food intolerances and allergies.
Hormonal Issues Although it is often considered as a problem for women only, hormones are very important for males as well, as we all rely on them to eat, sleep and rest in amongst of a myriad of other functions in our body.
Issues Kinesiology may help with include PMS, Menopause, fertility issues, PCOS, sleeping, blood sugar and adrenal stress and fatigue.
Stress In today’s society, we are under enormous pressure in all facets of our lives; with our jobs, our finances, families and our social circumstances. Many people are suffering from stress related illnesses and this unfortunately is becoming more prevalent in all ages including the young, which is often manifesting as anxiety, poor sleeping patterns, learning and mental processing issues and behavioural problems. Kinesiology can help people manage their stress levels better, making coping under stressful situtations easier.
Learning and Memory Learning is something that we spend a lifetime doing, well beyond the time we spend at school. Unfortunately, there are a number of reasons why this can be hindered in people including stress and nutritional issues, however, these can be addressed at any stage of a person’s life making the learning and education process far easier and more successful.
Fortunately, I have had the opportunity to participate in additional workshops to build upon what I have learnt during my Kinesiology studies. These have allowed me to develop a much better understanding of how the brain functions and provided me with the resources and tools to help people unlock their brains potential. This program LEAP (Learning Enhancement Advanced Programme) has been developed by highly respected scientist and kinesiologist Dr Charles Krebbs. (see Brain Integration tab for more information).
Other physiological issues Kinesiology may also help with other issues including poor immune function, cold sores, eczema, psoriasis, asthma, cold hands and feet, bet wetting and fatigue. If what you suffer from isn't listed anywhere here it doesn't mean Kinesiology can't help, it's a matter of asking me and chances are it can.
Often the problems listed above go hand in hand with others for example someone under significant stress may experience muscular pain and headaches, poor sleep, weight gain or loss and suffer from eczema. The wonderful thing about kinesiology is that it can help address all of these issues over time providing much sought after relief. Of course, it is only part of the puzzle and clients are encouraged to make changes in their life to help alleviate the pain and discomfort felt.

Lastly, but certainly not least....
With more people embracing the understanding that we are responsible for creating the life we want and desire, Kinesiology is an incredible tool to include in building this area of your life as it can clear unknown blocks in the subconscious which have led to self-sabotage, self-doubt and limitation. Personally, the use of Kinesiology along with actively growing every day towards my focused intentions has got me to where I am today and will continue to aid me in my ultimate heart's desires.
